Amarna: Artefact Visualization
Tell-el-Amarna is the site of the ancient city built by the Pharaoh Akhenaten, who sought to establish the Aten as Egypt's one god.
This infographic visualizes archaeological records from 1921-1936. It allows large scale comparisons between the distrubtions of categorizes of artefacts, which reveals interesting trends about life in Akenaten's city.

The Small Finds Database is available for download from The Amarna Project. The file is available as a huge excel spreadsheet.
I sorted, categorized, and visualized the data to help show trends. For example, symbols of Aten (the offical, royal god) were concentrated in the Palace. Meanwhile, Bes, a household god who should not technically appear under Akhenaten’s monotheistic reign, is found mostly in the main city where normal citizens reside.
Please Note: although I attempted to be as accurate as possible with the data, for the purposes of the demonstration I needed to merge some results and make educated guesses due to gaps in the available data.
